Paul Dupré-Lafon at l’Hôtel de Maisons

Galerie Maxime Flatry presents an extraordinary salon by Paul Dupré-Lafon for Design Miami.Paris. This choice was an evident one, as the gallery has cham- pioned Dupré-Lafon’s work since its opening, having acquired several of his rare pieces and dedicating the exhibition From Paul to Paul to him in October 2023, where his creations were showcased in dialogue with works by American artist Paul McCarthy. Additionally, thesettingofl’hôteldeMaisons, wherethefairisheld, provides the ideal backdrop for this expansive salon, echoing the grandeur of the venue’s architecture.

Paul Dupré-Lafon (1900-1971), a major figure of the Art Deco movement, left a lasting mark on the period with his unique vision of luxury, one that’s defined by the idea of “grandeur.” Born in Marseille, it was perhaps the vastness of the Mediterranean that shaped his preference for large-scale dimensions, standing in contrast to the smaller, jewelry-like furniture typically associated with Art Deco. His spectacular interiors, defined by angular geometry and a blend of luxury and modern comfort, quickly set him apart from his contemporaries.

In this salon, as with his broader oeuvre, Dupré-Lafon transcended the conventions of his time, creating fur- niture of impressive scale and remarkable comfort. The Hôtel des Maisons offers the perfect space to exhibit this ensemble, which, in its own way, reflects the architectural majesty of the venue.
